A carotid endarterectomy is a procedure where the surgeon makes an incision along the neck and opens up the carotid artery to remove plaque or other debris blocking the blood flow. at least that’s what we do at our hospital. Once the artery is clear of plaque the surgeon then repairs the artery with a patch that he cuts to size.
