The Surgical Tech Student

When the incision is made I always call it out, in any cesarean case so the circulator knows, in case they’re busy. They need to know the times of incision, delivery of each baby, cord blood, & the delivery of the placenta. I will write the time on my back table if they’re not available to write it down.

Radical Orchiectomy

It’s the same incision made for a hernia repair. Removing the testicle allows for examination of the tumor under a microscope. The testicle and spermatic cord are both removed. This is performed through a small cut made to the skin in the groin areanot the scrotum! Penrose drains will also be used once the spermatic cord is identified.

She’ll use it to make the incision bigger. Make 3-4 small incisions using 11 or 15-blade & insert trocars. Incise cystic duct with lap scissors & insert cholangiogram catheter if needed. When we have an emergency case you just have to remember which one uses what! Ours do local, blade, trocar & repeat.

Exploratory Laparotomy: An Exploratory Laparotomy is a surgical procedure in which a large incision is made in the abdomen to allow the surgeon to examine the organs and tissues inside. The incision is then closed in layers, and a drain may be placed to prevent fluid buildup. I always just grab it & wait to ask!

Carotid Endarterectomy

A carotid endarterectomy is a procedure where the surgeon makes an incision along the neck and opens up the carotid artery to remove plaque or other debris blocking the blood flow. What is a Carotid Endarterectomy? Once the artery is clear of plaque the surgeon then repairs the artery with a patch that he cuts to size.
