Over the past year there has been a lot of increased emphasis and attention placed on pre-cleaning surgical instruments at the point of use prior to transport to sterile reprocessing. Joint Commission then conducts their surveys/audits based on the standards that have been set for sterile processing activities. Section 7.3
There was a considerable amount of on-the-job training which included patient care, instrument sterilization, draping procedures, instrumentation and sutures. But, I will say that I never forgot what that tech said to me; this one comment affected my whole career in the operating room.
Honestly, I don’t know what I was even expecting, but what I saw was a well-organized surgical department with shelf after shelf of instrument trays and sterile supplies. When I walked into the OR for orientation on Sunday morning, I was amazed by what I saw.
This year, the conference was approved for Nursing, SurgicalTech, AND Sterile Processing CEs! Hopefully, the same is true next year, and I hope I see EVERYBODY from surgical services attending, learning, networking, and having fun together. The CST will keep their setup sterile until notified that they can tear it down. (at Once the artery is clear of plaque the surgeon then repairs the artery with a patch that he cuts to size. The surgeon will probably test several times to make sure the patch is stitched in place properly and then will close.
